Business Legal Triage Call
(20 Minutes)
When a business problem starts to feel like a legal problem, it’s hard to know how serious it is, whether you really need a lawyer, or what to do next. This 20-minute paid call gives you a focused conversation with our team so you can stop guessing and start making a clearer, more informed plan.
When a business issue turns legal, you don’t need the cheapest answer; you need the right one.
If something has gone sideways in your business, you’re probably not lying awake thinking about entity governance or contractual indemnity. You’re thinking things like:
- If this goes wrong, can they come after me personally, or am I actually protected by the LLC?
- We set this up years ago with a cheap online service. Is it actually done right?
- We’ve been using the same contract for years; I have no idea if it would hold up if someone challenged it.
- I’m worried that one wrong move could trigger a lawsuit we can’t afford.
- We’ve grown fast, but the legal side hasn’t kept up, and I’m afraid something important has slipped through the cracks.
If you’re mainly looking for the quickest or cheapest answer, this probably isn’t the right fit. The people who book this call usually want clarity, a realistic view of their risks, and guidance from a team that understands owner-operated and family-run California businesses with fewer than 100 employees.
They want to talk to someone who:
-
Understands how California businesses actually operate in the real world
-
Can help them think through next steps in a way that fits their goals, cash flow, and risk tolerance
If that’s you, the Business Legal Triage Call is your starting point.
Who the Business Legal Triage Call is for
This 20-minute call is designed for:
-
Owners of California businesses with under 100 employees (family-owned or not) who know their legal foundation needs attention
-
Businesses that used DIY formations, online templates, AI-generated contracts, or borrowed forms and have now grown beyond that
-
Owners who are worried about an upcoming contract, loan, partner change, or potential sale
-
Anyone who wants help understanding their options before committing to a full engagement with the firm
If you already know you need a full contract review, a detailed entity cleanup, or representation in active litigation, we may discuss a more extended strategy session or a different fee arrangement. The triage call is meant to be your first, clarifying step.
If you completed our online Legal Health Check
We’ll review your Health Check responses and the risk snapshot before the call, so we can spend our time helping you interpret it, answer high-level questions, and refine your priorities.
If you did not complete the Health Check
That’s completely fine, we’ll use the first few minutes of the call to ask you targeted questions and get oriented before we talk through options.
What we’ll do in 20 minutes
In your 20-minute Business Legal Triage Call, we will:
- Talk through what’s happening in your business in plain English, so we’re grounded in the real situation before jumping to legal conclusions.
- Identify the type of legal issue you’re likely dealing with, and whether it’s something our firm typically handles.
- Explain common legal principles and options that show up in situations like yours, so you understand the landscape and potential risks.
- Help you decide whether you actually need a lawyer right now, and if so, what kind of help makes sense at this stage.
- Point you in the right direction if we’re not the right fit, including what type of lawyer or resource to look for and key questions to ask.
If you completed the Legal Health Check
- Briefly walk through your snapshot (risk band and top issues)
- Use that context to help you prioritize what to address first and what can wait
You should finish the call with a much better sense of:
- How serious this might be
- Whether this is something to act on now or monitor
- What kind of help you actually need, and from whom
The call is a brief, structured conversation focused on giving you orientation, general legal education, and practical next steps — even if we don’t end up working together.
Many clients tell us that even if we never work together beyond this call, simply having clarity about what they’re facing and a concrete plan for next steps is a huge relief.
What this call is, and what it isn’t
To keep expectations clear and consistent with legal ethics rules:
What this call is
-
General legal information, education, and planning support
-
A discussion of how the law typically treats issues like yours and the kinds of options that commonly exist in situations of this type
-
A structured conversation to help you understand what kind of problem you’re dealing with and what next steps generally make sense
What this call isn’t
-
Contract or document review
-
Legal advice about your specific situation or a full legal analysis of your facts
-
A substitute for formal representation or an attempt to fully resolve your matter in 20 minutes
-
The creation of an attorney–client relationship by scheduling or attending the call
Our role in this call is to help you get oriented — to understand the nature of the issue you’re facing and the types of paths that are typically available — not to provide formal legal advice on your specific facts.
If, after we talk, it appears that we’re a good fit to help and you decide to move forward, we’ll discuss what representation would look like and review a separate engagement agreement and flat-fee structure for that work.
Fee, credit toward future work, and how it works
- Length: 20 minutes
- Format: Phone or Zoom (as specified when you book)
- Who you’ll speak with: Your call may be with an attorney or a trained member of our team working under attorney supervision
Fee
$150, paid at the time of scheduling
If you decide to become a client within 48 hours of your triage call — meaning you sign our engagement agreement for your matter and pay the initial flat fee — we apply the $150 you paid for the triage call as a credit toward your first flat-fee payment (for example, a Business Legal Strategy Session or defined project).
That way, you’re not paying twice for that initial time if we move forward together, and the triage call truly becomes the first step in your representation.
If you decide not to move forward with us, you still keep the value of the 20-minute call: clarity about what you’re dealing with, general legal education about the issues, and a plan for what to do next.
You’ll choose a time and pay securely online through our scheduling system. After you book, you’ll receive a confirmation email with the call details and a reminder of what to have ready so we can make the most of the 20 minutes.
Schedule Your 20-Minute Triage Call
Choose a time that works for you using the scheduler below. Your call may be with an attorney or a trained member of our team.
We’ll review your Legal Health Check responses in advance so we can make the most of your 20 minutes together.
The triage call is a flat fee of $150, which we credit toward a Business Legal Strategy Session or flat-fee project if you decide to move forward.
If you don’t see any times that work, reply to the confirmation email you received from our office, and we’ll do our best to find an alternative.
This Health Check, any triage call, and this website are for informational purposes only and do not constitute legal advice. Completing the Health Check, scheduling a call, or communicating with our office through this site does not create an attorney–client relationship. We only become your lawyers after we check for conflicts of interest and both sides sign a written engagement agreement. We advise on matters governed by California law.
